Jury retire to consider manslaughter verdict
The jury at Hove Crown Court has today retired to consider their verdict after hearing evidence during the 13-day trial of a company director accused of manslaughter. Darren Hoofe, an employee, fell to his death through a rooflight in 2005.
During the trial the court heard that effective fall arrest e.g. a harness system or safety nets, was not provided and used. Mr Cooper denies manslaughter although his company has pleaded guilty to a H&S offence. The jury will return to consider the matter on Thursday 22 January.
