Family have lucky escape as car struck by crane hook
Two adults and two children were involved in the incident when the hook of a crane being prepared to operate struck their vehicle. The road was closed to free a passenger in the car who suffered head injuries but has since been released from hospital. One man was arrested following the incident and later released.
Fire Service Commander, Kevin Lynch, said the “family were fortunate to escape relatively lightly from an accident that could easily have had a much more serious outcome. We were called to the incident on Saturday morning and on arrival we ascertained that the crane had been preparing to start work when the hook swung out and struck the people carrier on the front passenger side.” The Northern Ireland Health and Safety Executive (NIHSE) has confirmed that it is investigating the incident.
