Fire in car park under construction leaves seven dead

The Moscow based Itar-Tass news agency has reported that seven people died in a fire that occurred in an underground car park under construction in the southeast of Moscow. The chief of Moscow’s Emergency Situations Ministry department, Yevgeny Bobylev told the agency “The seven bodies were found by firefighters who were called to deal with a blaze in an underground car park in Privolnaya Street, just outside Moscow’s beltline highway MKAD.” The fire has now been extinguished.
Comment: A construction industry fire of this kind resulting in multiple fatalities is a low probability/high consequence event that has not been experienced in the UK in recent years. This incident is a clear reminder to the industry and regulators of the need to remain vigilant and ensure that such risk low probability events receive their due consideration.
