User friendly guidance for working on roofs now available
The HSE guidance leaflet Working on roofs (indg 285 rev 11/08) is now available as downloadable pdf file. The leaflet is aimed at those who actually carry out roof work or are directly responsible for managing or supervising such work. The guidance sets out key safeguards and more detailed information is contained in the purchasable publication Health and safety in roof work HSG33.
Comment: This new document does not appear to contain any major changes in policy or recommended safe practice. It should be read in conjunction with the HSE guidance on fragile roofs. Falls through fragile roofs e.g. rooflights and fibre cement sheets, remain the biggest single cause of fatal falls in construction.
