MANSLAUGHTER CASE CONCLUDED

Construction company director jailed for 12 months

In Norwich Crown Court the director of a construction company has been jailed after admitting the manslaughter of Chinese national. He was also disqualified from acting as a company director for five years. The workman was on the roof at a bakery and he died after falling through a rooflight.

Judge Jacobs said that not guarding the rooflights was “total lunacy”. The deceased and other workers on site “were probably illegal immigrants grateful for work with no questions asked,” he said. “One hears of grotesque examples of breaches of health and safety and that is why we have legislation to protect people.”
