Telehandler Overturn Causes Site Death

A man has died after a telehandler overturned and the boom struck the vehicle in which he was sitting. Two other men were injured in the incident. A photograph is available plus a further picture and more detail. The HSE website provides advice on preventing telehandlers overturning and further information on the safe use of telehandlers can be found in our Web Library.

Workplace Transport

Mobile plant and vehicles continue to cause many fatal and other injuries on construction projects. HSE has now published injury data for workplace transport in 2005.06.

Excavators make a significant contribution to such injuries. Guidance is now available for assessing visibility on excavators.

Fatal Injuries In Construction Nov 2007

  • Struck by a reversing telehandler
  • Struck by the bucket of an excavator
  • Struck by precast concrete plank

Deaths On Domestic Projects Lead To Call For Action

HSE Releases Half Year Injury Statistics For 2007/08

HSE has announced that the all industry “fatality count so far this year looks more in line with 2005/06 (the lowest recorded rate) than with 2006/07, though it is statistically consistent with either.” Within the total, construction is running at a rate similar to 2005/06. The construction rate of non-fatal injury is higher in the first two quarters of 2007/08 compared with a year earlier.
